South African Hayley Nixon became the 2017 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Champion in Hong Kong this fall having already won the ICF World Cup Nelo Summer Challenge. In 2016 she made her mark in the sport by becoming the World Surfski Series Champion. Since the world championships Hayley won the Palm2Pines race in Sydney. And her next race is the 56 kilometer Cape Point Challenge canoe ocean racing event in Cape Town to finish the year. Before taking up Surfski Hayley was a rower and campaigned for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Hayley also gives back to the sport and was named the 2017 ICF Athlete’s Committee representative for Canoe Marathon as well as the Women’s Representative on the 2017 Caneoing South Africa Board. When she is not on the water, Hayley is a practicing Biokineticist with a special interest in athlete strength & conditioning.
