Olympic medalist Katie Meili talks about her decision to go pro after graduating from Columbia, despite feeling she wasn’t “good enough” at the time

(f)empower is co-hosted by Christen Shefchunas and Kara Lynn Joyce

Podcast length: 38′ 55″

Christen and Kara are joined by Katie Meili, Columbia graduate, 2016 Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalist, 2017 World Championships Silver Medalist and now in law school at Georgetown continuing to train for 2020. Katie talks about her decision to go pro after graduating from Columbia, even though she probably wasn’t “good enough” at the time to be a pro. Yet, she had a feeling that there was more in her, so she took the risk. She speaks about her training and her journey to Olympic Trials and then to the Olympic Games. Katie was in the Olympic final in the iconic 100 breaststroke that became known as “Lilly King vs. the Russian” (Yulia Efimova). Katie talks about that race and even lets us know what she was thinking about in the ready room before the race. You don’t want to miss this episode, so many good nuggets of wisdom and determination to follow her more.
