Belgium’s Sofie Gierts opens up about her tumultuous career in this exclusive interview with Ash Nelson about how it felt to not be selected for the London Olympic Games even though she contributed with three of the four goals in a qualifying game when the Red Panthers beat Ireland. She also reveals how the team’s admin treated her and the effect it had on her personally and professionally. Sofie also explains that the lack of opportunities in Belgium led her to playing in neighbouring Holland, one of the sport’s leading nations, and how this impacted her career. Now retired she has become a coach becasue giving back to the sport is important to her despite the way she way treated.
