Meet the host of Active Health – Dr. Juliet McGrattan
I wear a lot of different hats but running helps and inspires me in all that I do. I’m passionate about using exercise for health and well-being and trying to get the inactive moving. I qualified as a doctor in 1996 and became a General Practitioner (GP) in 2002. After 16 years as a GP I decided to hang up my stethoscope and follow my passion, using my medical knowledge and experience to improve the health of women through physical activity. My book Sorted: The Active Woman’s Guide to Health was published by Bloomsbury Sport in 2017 and won first prize in the Popular Medicine category at the 2018 British Medical Association Medical Book Awards. I blog regularly at drjulietmcgrattan.com and …I’m the resident Health Expert. I’m also the resident Health Expert for Women’s Running UK magazine and write frequently for other paper and online publications.
I am the Women’s Health Lead and Master Coach for the 261 Fearless global network founded by Kathrine Switzer which empowers women from every race and background to find courage through running. I am a Founder and Director of 261 Fearless Club UK and founding member and coach of my local clubs 261 Fearless Club Lune Valley and 261 Fearless Club Lancaster.
I worked for three years for Public Health England as the Lead Champion for Physical Activity in the North West of England. I love to run. I enjoy all distances from 5k to Marathon. I’m not a fast or hugely accomplished runner but to me that’s not important. Running and sport in general is all about fun. I want to get as many people up out of their chairs as possible and experiencing the joy and benefits that exercise brings. Family life is busy as my husband and I have three children, a dog and the worlds’ biggest pile of ironing.
