USA Rugby Player and WiSP Sports Ambassador Naya Tapper shares her ideas about how the sport of rugby needs to be promoted to gain fans and players
Naya Tapper is a professional women’s rugby player for the USA Rugby Women’s Eagles Sevens Team. Naya is originally from South Carolina, and attended college at The University of North Carolina, where she graduated in 2016. Naya began her rugby career playing for UNC in 2012. Naya plays on both the Women’s Eagles Sevens team and the Women’s Eagles fifteens team, but is currently focused on HSBC Sevens 2018-2019 tournament. Naya began playing for the Eagles since 2016. She currently resides in Chula Vista California, where she trains at the Olympic Training Center.
To start off the 2018 season Naya played in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, held in San Francisco in July. She was the second leading try scorer for the tournament with six tries. Every year the HSBC sevens tournament is held in cities all across the globe from October to May. The first leg of the HSBC Sevens tournament took place in Colorado, where team USA took the silver and Naya scored two tries. The team then went to Dubai, where they took fourth place. Naya is the all-time leading women’s try scorer for USA Rugby.
