On this episode of The Sailing Show, Abby talks to Swiss solo sailor, Justine Mettraux about her Figaro campaign and her pathway into the Figaro circuit. Justine first competed in the Mini Transat series back in 2013 and went onto compete in the Volvo Ocean Race in 2014-15 with Team SCA. Justine is now in her 4th consecutive year in the Figaro circuit, and is joins us fresh from the first Figaro event of this season: The Solo Maitre Coq, finishing 9th in a fleet of 47, a fantastic result in such a competitive fleet. Abby’s second guest is record breaking round the world sailor, Dee Caffari. Dee has sailed around the world six times. She is the first woman to have sailed single-handed and non-stop around the world in both directions and the only woman to have sailed non-stop around the world a total of three times. Dee gives her advice and opinions on advancing through the sport of sailing, or even advancing your career in professional yachting. Drawing on her experience as a skipper of a young crew in the last Volvo Ocean Race, she shares what she was looking for when selecting her crew. Great advice for any ambitious sailor.
