Lara Gut (SUI) earned her first-career Overall Title. The Swiss sensation was in a battle with American Lindsey Vonn, until a late-season injury forced Vonn out the picture paving the way for Gut to claim her hard-fought season title. Gut had a sensational season, earning 13 total podiums, including six victories. She was a true overall skier this season, as her victories came in four disciplines: downhill, super-G, giant slalom and alpine combined. Gut also earned the discipline globe in the super-G thanks to her four podiums and her seven (out of eight!) Top 7 finishes.
“Since started ski racing, I feel like I’m considered as a prodigy and a potential winner of the Overall,” said Gut. “So the pressure has always been there. I guess I was not mature enough so far. Now I found my way, I can work and improve my skiing in harmony with my team and I learned to handle the pressure. In a crazy season like this one, with the duel with Lindsey Vonn where the lead changed almost every week-end, this experience helped a lot. I always try to do my best, and maybe it’s enough for the Overall, and this year it was the case. I’m very happy and proud to finally hold it in my hands.”
In total, 12 individual globes were handed out at the Season Finals. The winners came from seven different nations during the very balanced and competitive season. FIS would like to congratulate all of this season’s crystal globe winners and looks forward to an exciting 2016/17 season.
