Jessica Kelley joins Chris Stafford again for this month’s WiSP World USA with news of US athletes heading to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The USA’s first double gold medalist in summer and winter sports Alana Nichols talks about her transitions from alpine skiing where she won a gold medal in Vancouver to a gold in Beijing in wheelchair basketball.
She is now one of the first athletes to compete in the para-canoeing when the sport debuts at the Paralympics in Rio this summer. One of the USA’s main hopes for a medal in Rio is the on form Judoka and good friend of WiSP Sports, Marti Malloy who has featured in our Estrada para Rio series where she shares her Olympic training schedule. You can hear that on this month’s episode along with an extract from Five Ring Circus, our weekly Olympic podcast which focuses on the issues surrounding the games such as gender identity – take a listen.
